A twist in Dubai for Chong Wei

KUALA LUMPUR: Things are getting tricky for Lee Chong Wei.

The man, whom Chong Wei beat in a Group A match yesterday in the Super Series Finals in Dubai, has bounced back.

Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long recovered from a loss to Chong Wei to stun South Korea’s highly fancied Son Wan Ho today.

This means that Chong Wei must beat the Korean in his final match tomorrow to secure a spot in the knockout stage.

If Chong Wei loses, he still has a chance to progress but it will depend on his scores difference with Ka Long and Wan Ho today.

Chong Wei said he feels well conditioned for the battle ahead.

“I need to be well prepared as every game here is really tricky,” he said.

The competition in Group A became slightly easier after Olympic champion Chen Long withdrew at the 11th hour due to a knee injury.

National coach Tey Seu Bock said he is hoping Chong Wei can maintain the same level of performance he showed against Ka Long.

"He looked very confident against Ka Long which is very important if he is to do well."

Chong Wei, 35, has won the Super Series Finals four times: 2008 (Kota Kinabalu) 2009 (Johor Baru), 2010 (Taiwan) and 2013 (Kuala Lumpur).
