Wei Chong-Kai Wun make late charge for World Tour Finals ticket

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun have set a target of reaching four quarter-finals in their next tournaments in a bid to qualify for the World Tour Finals in December.

Previously, Timesport reported that the pair were not giving much thought to the season-ending World Tour finale despite being in the top eight of the Race to Finals rankings.

But a quarter-final appearance at the recent China Open seems to have reignited their interest.

The world No. 13 will take part in the Arctic and Denmark Opens this month and the Japan and China Masters in November.

"To qualify for the World Tour Finals, we have to reach four quarter-finals in the coming tournaments," said Wei Chong.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun have a good chance of qualifying following an injury to teammate Choong Hon Jian.

Hon Jian, with partner Haikal Nazri, were ahead of Wei Chong-Kai Wun in the Race to Finals rankings, at sixth. Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani were seventh then.

However, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin have shot up to fifth after winning the Japan and China Opens recently while Hon Jian-Haikal have dropped to eigth. Wei Chong-Kai Wun are now seventh.

With Hon Jian out for at least two months with a hip injury, the last spot for a Malaysian pair is Wei Chong-Kai Wun's to lose.
