Wei Sheng's determination attracted Seu Bock

KUALA LUMPUR: The sheer determination shown by Loh Wei Shen to learn managed to attract national women’s singles head coach Tey Seu Bock to propose his name to be appointed as a new women’s singles coach.

Seu Bock said even though Wei Sheng, 25, does not have the experience as a coach, however the sheer determination shown by the former 2010 Asia Junior runner-up to learn was something that was very positive which he took notice of.

He said, Wei Sheng will play a role in helping him and another coach, Rony Agustinus to to train national women’s singles players apart from being a fellow player and trainee to the rest of them.

“After he (Wei Sheng) finished his studies, he very often came to the BA of Malaysia’s (BAM) training facility to train with the national players. At the same time, he showed a keen interest to learn to become a coach.

“It is very hard to find someone like Wei Sheng where he does not expect anything in return for what he has done. BAM did offer him some form of payment for training with and being a sparring partner to the national women’s singles players, but he politely declined and instead said that he was grateful for the opportunity to learn which to him was more than good enough.

“This is why I was attracted to help mould him into a coach. He is still young which is an advantage to him because he can continue being a training and sparring partner for the national women’s singles players,” said Seu Bock.

BAM secretary, Datuk Ng Chin Chai, yesterday confirmed that they have appointed Wei Sheng who is a former national player as a women’s singles coach to assist Seu Bock and Rony.

He will take up her new role as of next month.

He had left BAM as a men’s singles player in 2014 to further his studies. Prior to that, he spent four years with the national trainee squad.

According to Seu Bock, he will use this opportunity to help Wei Sheng become a top coach for the sake of his future because he deserves it.

“I want to help mould him, all the experience I have garnered over the years, and I will share it with him. He is still young and has a long way more to go, but his determination which is very strong within him makes me feel confident that he can succeed in coaching,” said Seu Bock.
