BUKIT KIARA: Women’s doubles shuttler Lee Meng Yean has been axed from the Asian Team Championships squad due to a knee injury.
She has been replaced by Tee Jing Yi.
Women’s doubles coach Wong Pei Tty said Meng Yean’s injury is serious and her absence will affect the team’s preparation for the Asian Team event, which doubles up as a qualifier for the Uber Cup, in Alor Star.
“We had no choice but to drop Meng Yean,” said Pei Tty at the Malaysia Badminton Academy (MBA) on Monday.
“Meng Yean and her partner Chow Mei Kuan have been performing well and we see them as having a promising future in women’s doubles.
“She may not need surgery for her knee and will undergo rehab.”
Meng Yean suffered the knee problem during the recent Malaysia Masters. She is expected to undergo rehab for at least six weeks.
