KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Ng Qi Xuan is on the mend after her horrific knee injury at last month's Malaysia Super 100 led to fans giving financial assistance for her surgery.
She shared an update on her condition in an Instagram video posted yesterday.
The 24-year-old said the first few days were the hardest to deal with after her surgery.
But the independent player is making progress and is determined to get back on court.
"I'm still in the initial stage of recovery and every step forward feels like a small victory.
"The road isn't easy, but I'm embracing the process and learning so much about resilience and patience along the way," she said.
Qi Xuan suffered the injury when she and Yap Rui Chen were on the verge of victory against national women's pair Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee in the semi-finals of the Malaysia Super 100.
After winning the first game 22-20 and leading 20-18, Qi Xuan went up for a smash but landed awkwardly and screamed in agony. She needed to be stretchered off the court.
It was later diagnosed that she had dislocated her knee and Qi Xuan appealed to the public to help pay her medical bills. Fans responded by flooding her account with donations.
