SINGAPORE: The two Malaysian shuttlers suspected of match-fixing, will get a chance to defend themselves today in front of the three-men panel appointed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Both the players are represented by their lawyers, and could be banned for life if found guilty.
BA of Malaysia representative, Jadadish Chandra, who is present as an observer for the two-day hearing at the Jen Tanglin Hotel in Singapore, said the two players will be given the chance to defend themselves today.
It is learnt that both the players have got six different charges against them from six tournaments between 2013-2016.
"They will have their chance to defend themselves. Both the suspects are represented by their respective lawyers,” said Jadadish yesterday, following the first day of hearing.
The BWF first got wind of the match-fixing issue after a foreign shuttler lodged a report with the world body in 2016, claiming to have been approached by one of the suspects to manipulate the outcome of a match.
The BWF have yet to reveal the names of the shuttlers but 2011 world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli and 2010 Thomas Cupper Tan Chun Seang were called to attend the hearing yesterday.
The duo were also seen at the hotel today where the hearing is being held.
