KUALA LUMPUR: National women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei’s challenge in the Korea Masters came to an end in the semi-finals when she went down fighting to China’s Li Xuerui.
The 2018 World Junior Champion however did put up a spirited, good fight against her opponent before bowing out 21-23, 21-10, 21-14, as Xuerui’s experienced separated the two.
Even though Jin Wei managed to bounce back by taking the second game, Xuerui remained calm and composed in the deciding third game which enabled her to prevail and advance to the final as she chases after her fourth title this season.
Since returning to action earlier this year after being plagued by injury problems as soon as the Rio Olympics ended in 2016, Xuerui, who is a former World No. 1, has been on an impressive run, winning the China Masters, United States Open and the Canada Open.
In related news, former national doubles player Tan Boon Heong, who linked up with South Korean Kim Sa Rang also put up a brave fight as they went down in the men’s doubles semi-final.
They lost to Taiwanese pair Po Li Wei-Wang Chi Lin 18-21, 21-12, 17-21.
