FORMER world junior champion Goh Jin Wei is in no rush to prove anything.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic that has crippled the world with lockdowns and movement control orders, Jin Wei is grateful to be in good health and be able to play badminton again.
The 20-year-old was forced to rest for a few months after undergoing a colectomy procedure to remove part of her colon last October.
Without proper training and competitions, Jin Wei's ranking took a dive, so did her dreams of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
However, it was not the end for the two-time world junior champion.
Jin Wei made a comeback earlier this year and played four competitive matches (two each at the Malaysia Masters and Asia Team Championships) before the Covid-19 forced the postponement of tournaments.
With tournaments postponed, including the Olympics, that will now take place next July, Jin Wei is going to take her time to regain her former self.
"I am not rushing right now. I want to take my time and be ready.
"More importantly, I feel great after my surgery last year. I can now commit 100 per cent to training.
"Unfortunately, everyone is stuck at home.
"I still do my workouts to stay fit but as I said, I'm not rushing for anything.
"I am not even thinking about the Tokyo Olympics that has been rescheduled," said the World No 138.
Exactly a year ago, Jin Wei was at No 25 and playing in top-tier tournaments.
It will take some time before the Penang-born can get her ranking up and play in bigger tournaments.
Apart from putting the calendar year on hold until June, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) have also frozen the world rankings.
For the record, Jin Wei is being groomed for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Fabian Peter
