EVERYONE deserves a second chance, or so believes the BA of Malaysia (BAM).
It is learnt that the national body are in talks to get the troubled shuttler, Toh Ee Wei, to rejoin the women's doubles department.
According to a source yesterday, BAM plan to get the 20-year-old former world junior championships finalist back in the national set-up.
"Let's be honest, Ee Wei is a very talented player," said the source, who chose to remain anonymous.
"BAM had to part ways (with Ee Wei early last year) because they didn't want to give in to her demands.
"As she is a young talented player, we want to see her go far. But no one wants to see a player get big headed," he added.
Once touted to be the next big name in Malaysian women's doubles, Ee Wei had formed a smashing combination with Pearly Tan.
Apart from coming close to winning the doubles crown at the 2018 World Junior Championships in Markham, Canada, Ee Wei-Pearly and Goh Jin Wei were the key players in the Malaysian team that reached the final of the Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta.
However, soon after joining the senior team, Ee Wei had a fallout with BAM.
The Melaka-born player "delayed" her transition to the senior squad after complaining of a chronic sinus problem and she allegedly made unreasonable demands, which forced BAM to let her go.
To make it worse for Ee Wei, she was also barred from competing as an independent shuttler.
But BAM have now decided to let bygones be bygones.
Believing in Ee Wei's great potential, the national association want to see the young shuttler reach her full potential.
"Under the new coaching structure, BAM are looking to bring a few talented young players in the women's doubles department to the next level.
"Putting aside seniors like Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean and Vivian Hoo, the national team have got up coming duo, M.Thinaah-Pearly, Yap Cheng Wen and other young players.
"Ee Wei would be a great inclusion to this set-up, so let's see how it goes," said the source.
Under the newly unveiled coaching structure, the women's doubles department will be led by Chan Chong Ming (former World No 1 men's doubles with Chew Choon Eng) and assisted by former top women's doubles, Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui.
It remains to be seen when Ee Wei would actually make a comeback to the national team due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but BAM hope to have their elite players, especially those under the Road to Tokyo programme back in training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on June 1.
