After announcing the retirement of women's doubles Chow Mei Kuan yesterday, BAM will continue to work with their existing players ahead of next month's Sudirman Cup in Finland, as well as the delayed Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Denmark in October.
BAM coaching director Wong Choong Hann said Mei Kuan's retirement came as no surprise as she had already expressed her intentions to do so since her marriage last year.
It is learnt that the 27-year-old tendered her resignation from the national team after competing in the recent Tokyo Olympics alongside her partner Lee Meng Yean. At the Olympics, Mei Kuan-Meng Yean crashed out in the group stage.
"Now that she's checked all her boxes, we thank her and wish her all the best," said Choong Hann.
The former world No 1 said the team, comprising those who competed in Tokyo recently, will resume training after a short break next week.
The draw for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals, scheduled for Oct 9-17 in Aarhus, will be conducted tomorrow. The world men's and women's team events were postponed last year due to Covid-19.
"Most of the players have been allowed to go home to meet their families, because they have been away from them for so long prior to the Olympics.
"On top of that, they had to undergo two weeks of quarantine since returning from the Olympics.
"They will report back for training on Sunday, but will undergo an additional one-week quarantine at ABM."
BAM still have time until the mid of September to finalise their squads for the Sudirman Cup, Thomas and Uber Cups.
