Juniors to get shot at Thomas/Uber Cup Finals

Top performing shuttlers from the recent Internal Junior Ranking tournament may get a chance to play in the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Denmark on Oct 9-17.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) junior development director Misbun Sidek said those who shone will be recommended to the national coaches for the selection process.

"It is only right to give the up-and-coming players a chance in team competitions.

"Furthermore, the BAM also want to send fresh faces to Denmark," said Misbun yesterday.

Eogene Ewe Eon, 16, and Siti Nurshuhaini Azman topped Group A of the boys and girls' singles events in the five-day event.

Eogene won five out of six matches to finish ahead of Justin Hoh, while Nurshuhaini won all five matches, dropping only two games.

In the boys singles event, Ong Zhen Yi came in third, followed by Chia Jeng Hon, Fazriq Razif, Chua Kim Sheng and V.Poopathi.

In the girls singles Group A, Tan Zhing Yi came in second, followed by Ong Xin Yee, Loh Zhi Wei, Joanne Ng and Chan Wen Tse. The bottom two players will play in the playoffs next week against the top two players from Group B.

The Internal Junior Ranking competition is a follow up to the National Junior Ranking Challenge, which was held in October last year.

The objective of these events is to ensure the national juniors maintain their performances and retain their competitive edge.
