KUALA LUMPUR: Top seeds Indonesia were a class above as they blanked Malaysia 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the Thomas Cup in Aarhus, Denmark, on Friday.
Indonesia's world No 5 Anthony Ginting extended his mastery over world No 8 Lee Zii Jia by taking the first singles 21-15, 21-17.
The Olympic bronze medallist was back to his all-action self as he put the loss to Zii Jia at the Sudirman Cup earlier this month behind him.
The win means Ginting has now beaten Zii Jia in four of their five meetings.
"It was definitely not a very good performance from me, and it was also down to Ginting showing his form," admitted Zii Jia.
"He was controlling me with his speed, and I wasn't as fast.
"Hopefully, this is just a slight dip for me, and I hope to get some rest before I focus on the upcoming tournaments."
Men's doubles world No 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo then exacted some revenge of their own when they defeated Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik 21-17, 16-21, 21-15.
It was quite the turnaround for the Indonesians who had suffered two straight tame losses to world No 8 Aaron-Wooi Yik at the Tokyo Olympics and Sudirman Cup.
In third singles, Thomas Cup debutant Ng Tze Yong was tasked to keep Malaysia in the hunt.
And the world No 82 certainly rose to the challenge as he displayed an array of excellent shots against world No 7 Jonatan Christie.
However, Jonatan's experience and superior fitness was the telling factor as he won the big points for a 14-21, 21-19, 21-16 win after 75 minutes.
Indonesia, who are seeking their 14th Thomas Cup crown but first since 2002, face hosts Denmark or India in the semi-finals on Saturday.
