Debut Super 300 titles for two pairs

Title winners Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Teoh Mei Xing-Anna Cheong are pleased with their success but remain firmly grounded for the future.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun rose to the occasion as they downed India's Krisna Prasad Garaga-Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala 21-18, 21-15 for the Syed Modi International men's doubles title in Lucknow, India on Sunday.

It was the world No 65's first Super 300 title. It is good progress for the pair who bagged three lower-tier titles (Polish Open, Spanish International and Irish Open) last year.

Meanwhile, world No 138 Mei Xing-Anna celebrated their first Super 300 title by beating seventh seeds Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 21-12, 21-13 in the women's doubles final.

It was a top result for Mei Xing-Anna, who were only paired last year and their second title since winning the Czech Open in October.

Wei Chong said: "This was our first Super 300 final, so we were only thinking about playing our best.

"We never really thought as far as winning the title.

"Our target now is to continue improving and try breaking into the top 30.

"I'm not sure what other tournaments we have after this, but we'll sit down with the coaches to discuss it."

Mei Xing, meanwhile, believes she and Anna still have a long way to go as a pair.

"I don't really agree that we're up to the level of Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah yet," said Mei Xing.

"We haven't really competed against higher-level pairs, and we're not that confident taking on stronger players just yet.

"But that is definitely our goal, and we will go back and train harder and continue to improve."
