KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik reckoned they were in no danger today, playing against national teammates Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the men's doubles last 16 of the World Championships.
And so there was no upset as the Olympic bronze medallists eased to an 21-17, 21-19 win in Tokyo.
The hard part will come tomorrow where the Malaysian duo will play Choi Solgyu-Seo Seung Jae. The Koreans defeated Taiwan's reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi Lin 21-17, 16-21, 21-14 today.
BAM coaching director Rexy Mainaky feels that world No 6 Aaron-Wooi Yik have the momentum, so just keep going.
Though Aaron-Wooi Yik are in the world meet quarter-finals for the second year running, they still can't shake off their "nearly men" tag for not having won an Open or major title.
Solgyu-Seung Jae have not beaten the Malaysians in their last three meetings.
"Aaron-Wooi Yik should have the upper hand because they have not lost to them in the last few meetings.
"However, they cannot let their guard down and must be sharp at all times.
"Be humble, do not take your opponents lightly, that is my advice to them," Rexy said.
