Tang Jie-Ee Wei gear up for badminton worlds

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have come a long way since becoming a pair in December.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei have already won two World Tour titles, but the world No. 16 want more.

In less than two weeks, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will be hoping to make an impact at the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Ee Wei, 23, who will be making her debut at the world meet, said: "I am looking forward to my debut.

"We have been together for eight months, and I think we are doing alright."

"There is no pressure on us. We just want to give our best."

Acknowledging that China's Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong and Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping and Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino are dominating the mixed doubles event, Ee Wei believes that it is just a matter of time before the rest start challenging them for honours.

"There is definitely a gap, but people must understand that pairs like Si Wei-Ya Qiong and Yuta-Arisa are seasoned combinations.

"Surely, it is not impossible to catch up if we continue to work hard," added Ee Wei.

Other Malaysian pairs in the fray are Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.

The World Championships draw will be held at the Badminton World Federation office here on Thursday.
