KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Tze Yong kept the Malaysian flag flying in the men's singles at the French Open, advancing to the quarter-finals on Thursday.
World No. 18 Tze Yong showcased his deadly form to defeat former European junior champion, Arnaud Merkle, 21-19, 21-8 at the Glaz Arena in Rennes, right in Merkle's home country.
With this victory, Tze Yong has now reached his ninth World Tour quarter-finals of the season.
He is set to face either reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand or Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen in the next round.
Having finished as runner-up to compatriot Lee Zii Jia at the Arctic Open just two weeks ago, Tze Yong is keen to bounce back after his early exit in the first round of the Denmark Open last week.
