KUALA LUMPUR: After much moving and switching around, the national men's doubles partnership of Choong Hon Jian and Haikal Nazri was made final in August.
Fast forward two months later, and the duo made their maiden final at the Super 100 Indonesia Masters in Surabaya.
Unfortunately for the promising pair, they couldn't cap it off with a title on Sunday, losing 21-16, 21-18 to Japan's Kenya Mitsuhashi-Hiroki Okumura.
"Hon Jian-Haikal have secured the runners-up spot in Surabaya. Here's to even greater improvement in the future," BAM posted on social media.
Before partnering with Hon Jian, Haikal had a short spell with Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who has since reunited with his former partner, Goh Sze Fei.
Hon Jian, on the other hand, was also in between partners, apart from playing in the mixed doubles as well.
Hon Jian-Haikal will get a chance to prove their efforts were no fluke when they compete in this week's Super 100 KL Masters.
They will open their campaign in the inaugural meet against Thailand's Weeraphat Phakjarung-Tanupat Viriyangkura.
