KUALA LUMPUR: Back in 2019, national men's pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi had a dream All England debut when they reached the final in Birmingham.
The former world champions are hoping to relive their best moments again.
Today, the world No. 5 Malaysians
checked into the second round of the Super 1000 competition after downing teammates Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani 21-19, 21-17.
"It wasn't an easy match, and as you all saw, we had big leads in both games but they caught up with us.
"We kept our composure and managed to come out on top," Aaron told the Badminton World Federation.
"We like playing in Birmingham, and if you recall we made the final in our debut.
"We hope to relive our best moments again," added Wooi Yik.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, who have yet to start the season in the manner they would have liked, will play Taiwan's Chang Ko Chi-Po Li Wei on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.
On what they thought about the new gunpowder grey mats that were introduced this year, Aaron said: "The new mats are looking good, a bit rough, but we like it."
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles opening round, independents Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing overcame a first game blemish to upset France's Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue 12-21, 21-19, 21-14.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing will face the winners of the match between Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet and Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Lisa Ayu Kusumawati next in the second round.
