Tang Jie takes long hard road to Paris

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no secret formula in Chen Tang Jie's rise as a shuttler.

Tang Jie, who takes pride in working like a Trojan, said "hard work" has gotten him and mixed doubles partner Toh Ee Wei to where they are today.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei sweat buckets to rise to their current World No. 9 ranking and qualify for next month's Paris Olympics.

The 26-year-old Ipoh-born Tang Jie has also proved that he could win titles with different partners. He combined with Peck Yen Wei to win the 2021Vietnam Sea Games gold medal, and their highest world ranking then was No. 21.

Things got even better when he started teaming up with Ee Wei in December 2022. They won two international titles last year and qualified for the World Tour Finals in just 12 months as a pair.

"No one works harder than me, and it has gotten me to where I am today," said Tang Jie.

"I'm always ready, focused and never give up. Achieving everything that I have so far is not by luck.

"Highs and lows as athletes are normal. With Ee Wei, I always have discussions with her on how to improve and not be content.

"We are motivated to do well in our first Olympics, and the best advice (from coaches and senior players) that we have gotten is to stay as calm as possible," added Tang Jie.
