Malaysia to face India for slot in Asian Juniors semis

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been drawn against India in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships in Yogjakarta, Indonesia.

The national squad emerged the champions of group B after beating United Arab Emirates 5-0 today. They had earlier this week defeated Macau and Kazakhstan by the same score line.

India finished runners-up in group C behind hosts Indonesia.

If Malaysia defeats India in the quarterfinal tomorrow they will face either China or Taiwan in the semi-finals.

The two other quarterfinals will see Indonesia facing off against Japan while South Korea will play UAE.

National team manager Vincent Chin is optimistic.

"It is a good draw for us and I believe the players will give it their all tomorrow. We want to make the semi-finals," said Vincent.

Malaysia lost 3-0 to Thailand in the quarterfinals last year. The last time the national squad won a medal in the competition, a bronze, was during the 2018 edition in Jakarta.
