Rexy warns Tang Jie-Ee Wei against overconfidence in Paris

KUALA LUMPUR: National coaching director Rexy Mainaky has warned Olympic-bound Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei not to be overconfident at the Paris Games.

Ranked world No. 9, the Malaysians are expected to reach the last eight by finishing top two in Group D, which also includes second seeds and world No. 2 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping of China, Vinson Chiu-Jennie Gai of the United States, and Terry Hee-Jessica Tan of Singapore.

Rexy, a former world and Olympic champion in men's doubles, said: "Tang Jie-Ee Wei have a good chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals but should not take their opponents lightly.

"China's Dong Ping was a gold medallist with a different partner at Tokyo 2020 and is making an impact with her new partner, while Singapore's Terry-Jessica are a decent pair who have recorded a few upsets this year," said Rexy.

If Tang Jie-Ee Wei progress, they will face the winners or runners-up of Group A, which includes China's top seeds Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong, Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun of South Korea, Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue of France, and Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari of Indonesia.
