SIBU: The Selangor and Federal Territories (WP) badminton squads will sweat it out for the gold medal after defeating their respective opponents in the semi-finals of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) at the Sibu Indoor Stadium today.
The FT team easily beat Penang 3-0 with Ong Xin Yee securing the first point from the women's singles after defeating Oo Shan Zi, 21-12, 21-12.
Justin Hoh also had no problem defeating Penang's Sng Wei Ming 21-15, 21-16 in the men's singles while the mixed doubles pair of Low Han Chen-Odelia Wong delivered FT's third point by beating Ong Zhen Yi-Tan Zhing Yi 21-9, 21-18.
Sarawak, meanwhile, failed to take advantage of playing in front of their fans when they lost 3-0 to Selangor and will now face Penang in the bronze medal deciding match tomorrow.
Selangor's first point was contributed by women's singles ace K. Letshanaa, who easily defeated Megan Tan Zhi Yi 21-3, 21-13.
However, the battle for the second point was an intense affair as Selangor's men's singles ace Chua Kim Sheng had to dig deep to overcome Sarawak's Goh Shun Huat 20-22, 21-14, 21-15.
Wong Vin Sean-Ho Lo Ee made sure of all three points for Selangor by overcoming Jeremy Zhen Liang-Kashley Kho Tze Yin 21-13, 21-12.
"It was not really a tough affair. I was just trying to pick up momentum and pace before tomorrow's final. However, in the second game, I made a lot of mistakes. Anyway, overall I am happy with today's performance," Letshanaa told reporters here. – BERNAMA
