KUALA LUMPUR: National men's pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will skip the Hong Kong Open next week as the latter is still recovering from a bone fracture on his foot.
Coach Tan Bin Shen said today: "Wooi Yik went for a scan on Tuesday, and it showed that he is recovering well.
"But we have decided to withdraw him from the Hong Kong Open to give him more time to recover.
"He might be available for the China Open in two weeks, but we will see how well the bone heals this week before making a decision."
Wooi Yik sustained the injury in the semi-finals of the recent Paris Olympics against China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.
"Even during the bronze medal playoff, he was feeling pain but braved through it.
"The metatarsal bone in his foot was fractured, and we need to wait for it to heal properly.
"He is currently doing light training, and we want him to fully heal before increasing his training intensity or even sending him to tournaments," added Bin Shen.
World No. 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik won their second Olympic bronze in Paris, defeating Anders Skaarup Rasmussen-Kim Astrup of Denmark to add to the medal they won at Tokyo 2020.
