Wooi Yik recovers from fractured toe, back to training [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles player Soh Wooi Yik has returned to full training after recovering from a right toe fracture.

The injury, suffered at the semi-final of the Paris Olympics, has kept him out of action for a month.

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky said today he expects Wooi Yik and his partner, Aaron Chia, to return to action at the Arctic Open next month.

Earlier, Aaron-Wooi Yik said it would be hard for them to qualify for the World Tour Finals as Wooi Yik's injury had led to them missing out on a lot of ranking points.

However, Rexy said the pair still have a chance of making it to the Tour Finals if they win a couple of tournaments.

At the moment, Aaron-Wooi Yik are 15th on the Race to Finals rankings. Only the top eight men's pairs will qualify,

Malaysia have three pairs in the top eight, and a country can send only two pairs to the Finals.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are fifth while Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun are seventh and Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri are in the last qualifying spot.

Meanwhile, acting Badminton Association of Malaysia president V. Subramaniam said coaches' performances, contracts and new coaching additions were among the matters discussed in an administrative meeting today.

"No decisions were made today as we are still in discussion. We will announce in due time," he said.
