Pang Ron-Su Yin stun top seeds to reach Macau Open semis

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin stunned top seeds Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet to reach the semi-finals of the Macau Open today.

World No. 29 Pang Ron-Su Yin, quarter-finallists at the Hong Kong Open and China Open, overcame the world No. 8 Hong Kong pair 21-18, 21-18 in 39 minutes in the quarter-finals.

They will face Indonesia's Dejan Ferdinanshah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, who defeated Thailand's Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat 21-18, 21-10. for a place in the final tomorrow.

In another last-eight clash, independent pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien lost 21-16, 22-20 to China's Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui.

Meanwhile, veterans Tan Wee Kiong-Nur Azriyn Ayub overcame a first-game blemish to reach the men's doubles semi-finals.

The world No. 46 Malaysian pair defeated Thai youngsters Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul, the third seeds, 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 in a 70-minute last eight clash.

Wee Kiong, 35, and Azriyn, 31, relied on their experience over Peeratchai, 20, and Pakkapon, 19, to secure their second semi-final appearance this year.

The Malaysians had reached the Kaohsiung Masters semi-finals in June, but it was only a Super 100 event.

For the record, world No. 27 Peeratchai-Pakkapon won silver at the 2023 Phnom Penh Sea Games and were champions in the US Open in June this year.

Awaiting Wee Kiong-Azriyn in the semi-finals are Indonesia's Moh Reza Pahlevi-Sabar Karyaman, who defeated Taiwan's Lu Ming Che-Tang Kai Wei 21-11, 21-18, tomorrow.

The Malaysians defeated Moh Reza-Sabar in their only meeting at the KL Masters last year.

Meanwhile, national backup pair Bryan Goonting-Fazriq Razif failed to clear the quarter-finals after losing 21-7, 21-11 to fourth seeds Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen of Taiwan.
