Pearly-Thinaah hungry for more after Hong Kong triumph

KUALA LUMPUR: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah's rise in form has made them one of the most exciting women's doubles pairs to watch on the World Tour.

The world No. 7 are now determined to maintain their momentum as they target valuable ranking points in their next four tournaments, aiming to qualify for the season-ending World Tour Finals in Hangzhou this December.

Fresh off their Hong Kong Super 500 victory last month — their first title since the French Open in 2022 — Pearly-Thinaah are eager not to wait another two years for their next triumph.

Currently ranked fifth in the race to the World Tour Finals, where only the top eight pairs qualify, Pearly expressed her relief at finally breaking their title drought.

"After two years and a few runner-up finishes, we're glad to have ended the drought in Hong Kong," said Pearly.

"We hope it won't take another two years to lift another trophy. For now, we're just focusing on ourselves and enjoying every match."

The pair finished runners-up in both the Malaysia Masters and Hong Kong Open last year, but Pearly insists they're not placing any undue pressure on themselves as they prepare for the Arctic Open and Denmark Open, followed by the Japan Masters and China Masters next month.

"Our main goal is to qualify for the World Tour Finals. We're focusing on strengthening our game for these next four tournaments, where we need to earn as many ranking points as possible to secure our place in Hangzhou."

Pearly-Thinaah's last appearance in the Finals was in Bangkok in 2022, where they finished bottom of their group, failing to win a single match.
