KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 9 mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are set to return to action at next month's Japan Masters after skipping several tournaments due to the latter's gym mishap last month.
Ee Wei, 24, resumed training earlier this month after a five-day break to recover from injuries sustained in an accident at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) gym in Bukit Kiara.
During a workout, she slipped while holding a dumbbell, causing a deep gash on her left hand and a grade two muscle tear in her back.
The injuries required 16 stitches and forced the duo to withdraw from the Arctic Open and Denmark Open.
Mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto confirmed that the pair will likely make their first appearance on their return at the Japan Masters (Nov 12-17), followed by the China Masters (Nov 19-24), as they aim to collect enough ranking points to qualify for the season-ending World Tour Finals in Hangzhou in December.
"Tang Jie-Ee Wei will likely play in both the Japan and China Masters," Nova told Bernama after a national team training session at ABM today.
Currently, Tang Jie-Ee Wei are ranked third in the BWF World Tour standings, one spot behind compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai.
According to the tournament format, only the top eight players and pairs will qualify for the prestigious World Tour Finals. - Bernama
