KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Qi Xuan has undergone a major surgery on her right knee, and the former national doubles shuttler expressed her gratitude to the public for their moral and financial support over the last few days.
Qi Xuan suffered the injury while partnering Yap Rui Chen in the Malaysia Super 100 semi-final against eventual champions Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee on Saturday.
A scan revealed that she suffered multiple injuries: torn anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, a loosened lateral cruciate ligament and a minor bone stress fracture.
However, she revealed that the surgery was more complicated than initially thought.
"Hi everyone, I've completed my surgery. It was longer than expected as the doctor discovered more and more things involved during the surgery," said Qi Xuan on Instagram.
"I was in so much of pain since the surgery but I'm feeling slightly better.
"Once again, thank you everyone who has supported me these few days. I hope there's a word better than 'thank you' to express my gratitude towards you all."
Qi Xuan had turned to crowdfunding on social media after she was told that the
surgery would cost approximately about RM60,000.
And the public response has been overwhelming, even leading to the
24-year-old Qi Xuan informing fans to stop sending donations as she had received the amount required.
Qi Xuan will soon start her long arduous journey to rehabilitation and recovery in an attempt to resume her career as an independent player.
