KUALA LUMPUR: M. Thinaah has a special place in her heart for newly appointed women's doubles head coach Rosman Razak after the latter "saved her international career" in 2018.
Thinaah, then 20, was heading nowhere in women's singles and had even contemplated leaving BAM before she was coaxed by Rosman to switch to the doubles as he felt she was strong in this department.
Initially, she partnered Lim Peiy Yee before Rosman saw the potential of Thinaah and Pearly Tan as world beaters, and combined them in 2019.
Thinaah recalled that decision by Rosman which changed Pearly and her lives, and is looking forward to learn more with the return of their former coach.
"I feel very happy with the return of coach Rosman as it was because of him I became a doubles player," said Thinaah.
"He accepted me into the doubles squad after I decided not to continue in the singles.
"So, it's really exciting to reunite with him and we are looking forward to working with him.
"Every coach has different strengths and I hope that coach Rosman's expertise can add more to our game."
Thinaah said that Rosman's cool and composed nature is something that can help them greatly during tournaments.
"Coach Rosman is a very calm and composed person. These are the qualities that we need in our game as we can sometimes crack under pressure in crucial situations," added Thinaah.
Rosman will replace Hoon Thien How as the national women's doubles coach after the latter was redesignated as the boys' doubles coach last month.
World No. 7 Pearly-Thinaah have been enjoying a good run since reaching the Paris Olympics semi-finals. They won the Hong Kong Open and finished runners-up at the Korea and Arctic Opens.
