KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 5 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik won the battle of Malaysian pairs to check into the quarter-finals of the China Masters in Shenzhen today.
Aaron-Wooi Yik overcame compatriots Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong 21-13, 21-19 in a 36-minute second round showdown at the Super 750 event.
It was the first meeting between the two pairs and the victory was important for Aaron-Wooi Yik to remain in the hunt for a spot in the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou next month.
Aaron-Wooi Yik will meet world No. 6 He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu of China in the last eight tomorrow.
