Malaysian cricket to get 'tons of viewers' following digital deal

MALAYSIAN cricket will soon attract an international audience, thanks to the two-year deal between the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) and India's FanCode, a premier digital sports platform.

FanCode will be a tool to promote Malaysian cricket as it has more than 15 million subscribers.

"FanCode acquired exclusive rights to live stream cricket matches in Malaysia to over 15 million subscribers in India. The deal is until next year.

"With the deal, the MCA foresee exciting times ahead. The broadcasting of matches via the digital platform will be done by our in-house team," said MCA president Mahinda Vallipuram.

The in-house production team will comprise local university students.

"This partnership augurs well for our cricket scene as, through this premier digital multi-sports platform, we can showcase the passion and quality of our game to India and the Indian sub-continent."

FanCode live streams more than five hundred matches yearly to its subscribers, and signing Malaysia marks a start of an active engagement to help promote the game here.

"I believe this partnership will open doors to greater involvement with corporate bodies and tourism agencies.

"There is now a platform for us to become partners with an ROI (Return of Investment) through targeted marketing programmes both nationally and internationally, keeping in mind that cricket is the second most-watched sport in the world," he added.

The local season starts with the T10 Bash event on March 26-28,
