ALOR STAR: The Kedah government will propose to the Youth and Sports Ministry that the final stage of next year's Le Tour de Langkawi be held on the holiday island, coinciding with Visit Kedah Year 2025.
State Youth and Sports, Consumer Affairs and Cost of Living Committee chairman Muhammad Radhi Mat Din said it would allow the cycling teams and event officials to stay longer in Langkawi.
"The proposal was discussed at the state executive council meeting and received unanimous support.
"We hope this proposal will be considered by the ministry, and I thank Langkawi member of parliament Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, for raising this matter in parliament to ensure it receives attention at the federal level.
"Normally, Le Tour de Langkawi is launched in Langkawi, but we have since taken into consideration the limited time available for cyclists and officials to stay in Langkawi.
"Therefore, we are proposing that the finale of Le Tour de Langkawi be held there for the next edition," Radhi said in his winding-up speech while debating Kedah Budget 2025 at the state assembly in Wisma Darul Aman here today.
Radhi said the move would be beneficial to various parties, particularly Kedah, in conjunction with Visit Kedah 2025.
