SHAH ALAM: Defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) defeated Mifa 3-0 in a Malaysia Cup Group C match at Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday to qualify for the quarter-finals.
In the 57th minute, JDT were awarded a penalty after Fernando Marquez was fouled inside the Mifa box.
The Argentine was unconscious and medical attention was immediately called to aid him.
As his teammate was rushed to the hospital, Gonzalo Cabrera slammed home the spot kick to give JDT the lead.
Safawi Rasid then added a brace, the first from a free kick and the second via penalty kick.
In Kota Bahru, Kelantan got the win they needed as they overcame Kedah 2-0 to finish second in Group C behind JDT.
The Red Warriors had two young midfielders to thank in Danial Ashraf and Nik Akif Syahiran, who netted a goal each.
In Group D, Selangor picked up a final pool stage win by overcoming Perak SEDC 4-1 at the Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang.
It was a dead rubber match as both teams had already been knocked out of the competition.
Fandi Ahmad gave Perak SEDC the lead in the 29th minute but The Red Giants recovered with goals from through Evan Dimas (37th), Rufino Segovia (39th), Amri Yahyah (42th) and Joseph Kalang Tie (90th).
The win pushed Selangor up above Perak SEDC into third place in the group.
