Terengganu sets record straight

Terengganu ended their five-year winless run against PKNS FC by edging K. Rajagobal’s side 2-1 in Friday’s Super League clash at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Terengganu caretaker coach Nafuzi Zain attributed the success to hard work.

“My boys played well and also followed instructions,” said Nafuzi.

“The record did not favour us but the players were motivated to perform well as records are meant to be broken.”

Terengganu’s last win over PKNS was the 2-1 success in January 2014.

The Turtles netted through Sanjaar Shaakhmedov (35th minute) and Nasrullah Haniff Johan (88th) while Kittiphong Pluemjai (84th) scored for PKNS.

Rajagobal, meanwhile, was not too thrilled with his side’s performance.

“I’m disappointed with the result. We had no energy and intensity, and were sloppy with our movements, especially in the first half.

“We had clear chances but we failed to convert them. After we had equalised, we went back to sleep and conceded a sloppy goal,” he said.

For the record, PKNS have only won once in their last 10 matches and are eighth in the standings with only 20 points. They have three more league matches to make amends.

PKNS’ sudden drop in form could be attributed to rumours that they would be converted into a feeder club for Selangor next season.

Asked whether the players were troubled by the rumours, Rajagobal said: “It is difficult to say because when you watch them perform, you could see their desire to get results.

“However, we have been conceding a lot of goals in the last few matches.”

PKNS will travel to Kuantan to play Pahang while Terengganu will entertain Kedah in Kuala Terengganu on Tuesday.
