KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed it will not be renewing Datuk Ong Kim Swee's contract as head coach of the national B22 squad.
Ong's contract is set to end this month.
FAM secretary Stuart Ramalingam confirmed this when contacted by Bernama today.
"Datuk Ong's contract as the head coach for B22/B23 which will end at the end of 2019 will not be renewed," he said.
This comes a day after the national B22 squad failed to make it to the football semi-final at the 2019 Sea Games in the Philippines.
Ong's boys displayed poor performance in the first two Group A matches against Myanmar and the Philippines.
They however rose against Timor Leste and won 4-0.
However, in the last group match, they lost to Cambodia 1-3.
Stuart said a meeting would be held with Ong to obtain his full report on the performance of the national football team at the 2019 Sea Games.
"On the decision, we are truly disappointed. We will conduct a post-mortem on what happened and we hope that this (poor performance) will not repeat in the future. We hope this can be improved," he added. -- BERNAMA
