Aidil believes in Tigers

National player Aidil Zafuan Radzak hopes the national team can achieve great things this year.

The 33-year-old centre-back believes the national team have a shot at making history in their pre-World Cup campaign.

Malaysia, who are second in Group G with nine points after five matches, will complete their qualifying campaign against the United Arab Emirates (March 26), Vietnam (March 31) and Thailand (June 9).

The winners of the eight groups and the four best runners-up will advance to the next stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and also earn automatic 2023 Asian Cup berths.

Aidil, who has earned 87 caps and scored three goals for Malaysia, said: “The national team ended last year on a high, and it was due to fighting spirit.

“So, if the team can continue performing well, I believe nothing will be impossible.

“I think we can win some matches and go far. As for me, I am in good shape and not carrying injuries,” said Aidil, who is in Dubai with JDT for their pre-season.

As for his hopes with JDT, Aidil said: “I do not have special expectations for this season. I will just do my best for the club.

“It’s been great though in the pre-season thanks to our boss (JDT owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim),” he added.

JDT have been churning out excellent performances in friendly matches in Dubai.

They have recorded three wins after four friendlies over UAE’s Dibba Al-Fujairah (1-0), Turkmenistan (2-1) and Slovakia’s MSK Zilina (2-1).

Their only defeat was to Latvian club FC Riga (2-0) in their first friendly.

JDT are using the stint to prepare for both the M-League and the AFC Champions League (ACL).

The defending Super League champions are in Group G in the ACL with Japan’s Vissel Kobe, South Korea’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings and China’s Guangzhou Evergrande.

They will open their campaign against Andres Iniesta-led Vissel in Kobe on Feb 12.
