KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Safawi Rasid and Liverpool’s Mohamad Salah share a similar trait. Both have a sweet left foot.
Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp said: “Safawi has a unique left foot just like Liverpool striker Salah. The Malaysian is also not afraid of taking on players.
“I watched a YouTube video of a match involving Safawi and his performance was really impressive. He should definitely try his luck in Europe one day as he has the potential to make it big.
“However, Safawi needs to have the desire to go abroad. Sometimes, it boils down to luck like how Japan star Takumi Minamino earned a contract with Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg before joining Liverpool in December.
Safawi was a star last season with Johor Darul Ta’zim by helping them win the Super League and Malaysia Cup. He scored 20 goals for the club last year.
The Dungun-born was also the national team’s top scorer last year with six goals.
