THE Malaysian Football League (MFL) have confirmed that they have taken legal action against video-on-demand providers, iflix for breach of contract.
It is understood that MFL and iflix had signed a 10-year deal in 2018 for the latter to show live Super League, Premier League, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup matches for free on their portal.
MFL president Datuk Hamidin Amin said: "We have taken legal action against iflix.
"They did not honour the contract with MFL for the second half of the 2018 season and the entire 2019 season," said Hamidin.
"I cannot reveal any more details as the matter is now in court."
This is not the first time MFL had issues with sponsors.
In 2016, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) signed a 15-year RM1.26 billion deal with international media rights firm, MP & Silva, which subsequently led to the formation of the Football Malaysia Liability Limited Partnership (FMLLP).
However, it turned into a legal matter in 2017.
Former FA of Malaysia president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim disclosed that the national body had to pay damages totalling RM25 million.
Last year, the MFL had also filed a lawsuit against telecommunication giants Telekom Malaysia (TM) for breach of contract. However, the matter has been settled.
