The Elephants plod towards FC deadline

AS the Sept 30 deadline looms, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) hope no team will fall behind in the FA (Football Association) to FC (Football Club) conversion.

Teams who fail to make the conversion from FA to FC, risk losing their places in the M-League.

FAM special task force chairman Firdaus Mohamed disclosed that although Pahang FA have not started privatising their team, a requirement under the FA to FC conversion, he believes the Elephants will get it done.

"We know that Pahang FA are optimistic about the conversion as they are committed to doing so," said Firdaus.

"To my knowledge, there has been a privatisation process done. So I am convinced they will complete it because it would be a waste if they don't, especially considering their heritage."

Pahang stood tall in Malaysian football in 2014 when they collected a treble — winning the Charity Shield, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup all in the same season.

Meanwhile, Firdaus commended Negri Sembilan FA for completing the conversion to FC early, saying they were truly focused on getting it done.

"I am glad Negri Sembilan had managed to do so wholly. I have visited all the states and saw where they were at. However, there are certain teams such as Sabah who haven't started the process."

He said due to the Covid-19 situation, it's difficult for FAM to keep tab on the progress made by state FAs. He added it is not clear at the Police FA yet because they have to wait for their exco's agreement.

However, Firdaus warned that there will not be any leniency for teams who fail to complete the process before the Sept 30 deadline.

"If they have only 10 per cent left to go in the conversion process, then they may get some leniency. But if they had only done 10 or 20 per cent (with 80 per cent or more not completed), then there is no way to give them space," he added.
