Neitzel: Selangor players must have winning mentality

KUALA LUMPUR: Karsten Neitzel insists pre-season results are important as the Selangor coach wants to create a winning mentality ahead of the new M-League season.

The German added that it would create a winning atmosphere in the team.

"I want a winning mentality during the pre-season. I do not want anyone to take it easy, especially during friendly matches.

"It will set the tone for us once the Super League starts."

The 53-year-old, appointed in November on a one-year contract, hopes to improve Selangor's fortunes this year.

Last season, Selangor finished fifth with 17 points.

Meanwhile, Melaka are expected to play at least five friendly matches ahead of the new season, which starts on Feb 28.

Melaka team manager Akram Abdullah said all players will be given a chance to play in these friendly matches.

Akram added that they are waiting for the arrivals of three foreign signings.

It is learnt that Melaka have signed Philippines' midfielder Manuel Ott and Croatian forward Ivan Lendric.

The contracts of South Korean defender Jang Suk-won and Haitian midfielder Sony Norde were extended for another season.

Melaka finished ninth in the Super League last season with 11 points.
