Following last season's cancellation, the Malaysian Premier Futsal League (MPFL) is set to return in June via a regional format.
Last year's MPFL, which did not get a good number of entries, was scrapped in June due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam said the new MPFL season is expected to get a reasonable number of entries.
"Due to many uncertainties caused by the pandemic, we will address them accordingly closer to the kick-off date," said Stuart on Sunday.
"For now, however, we have been getting encouraging responses from clubs for both the men and women's events.
"The clubs have also given positive responses to our decision to start the season mid-year via a regional format."
The format was formulated after looking into possible Covid-19 travel restrictions later this year.
It is also to help teams compete on a lower budget in these trying times.
"We have taken into consideration the travel restrictions, so the format will offer flexibility to work around the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.
"It will also allow FAM to operate the event without needing to cancel matches due to Covid issues," he added.
