Sarawak United are the latest Malaysian team to be sanctioned by Fifa for failing to pay their former coach, Juan Carlos Margo, RM200,000 in salary.
The Premier League side were slapped with a player transfer ban for the January, 2022 window by Fifa.
Spaniard Margo, a former Valencia CF grassroots coach, was appointed last season by FA of Sarawak (FAS),
But his contract was quickly terminated after he failed to meet the key performance index — as Sarawak United suffered three consecutive losses during pre-season.
FAS president Datuk Posa Majais, who confirmed the Fifa sanction, said: "We are appealing to pay half.
"The total that was claimed is RM200,000.
"This is a lesson learnt for us and whatever it is, we will clear it before the ban can be enforced."
Apart from the Fifa ban, it is learnt that Sarawak are still troubled by wage issues amid claims of favourtism in settling players' salaries.
It is alleged that players, who were born in Sarawak, were paid first while others are still owed money.
However, Posa, who denied the allegation, said: "We don't pick favourites. Some of the Sarawak-born players' salaries were small, from RM2,000-RM4,000. These small salaries we can pay.
"For the players with the bigger pay, we paid some in full, and others half. There is no favouritism."
Meanwhile, it was reported that Perak's former import, South Korean Jeon Hyo-Seok, had complained to Fifa over alleged unpaid wages of RM500,000.
