Still waiting for Maloney's reply

The ball is at Brad Maloney's feet, and the national Under-22 coach has yet to kick it back to the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

FAM, planning for several competitions next year, have offered the Australian an extension of his coaching contract.

Maloney, who is now back home in Australia, is said to have been given an offer letter after a meeting with FAM general secretary Saifuddin Abu Bakar last week, where he laid out his plans for next year.

"Everything will begin in January, training camp and such.

"There will be overseas friendlies as we prepare for the Asian Under-23 competition," said Saifuddin.

"Maloney is on leave, when he comes back, we'll confirm whether or not he accepts the offer.

"If he does not, then we will need to speak to the technical committee to see who is available."

Maloney, 49, who took over the national Under-19 job from Croatian Bojan Hodak in 2019, coached Malaysia to second place in the AFF Under-18 Championship.

Under Maloney, Malaysia also became Group G winners at last year's AFC Under-19 qualifiers and advanced to the final competition which was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Should Maloney continue as head coach, he will be helming the Malaysian team for several assignments next year.

The team are being prepared for the AFF Under-23 Championship in Cambodia in February, Vietnam Sea Games in May, Under-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan in June and for the Paris Olympics qualifiers in 2023.
