Kedah want to fight for trophies despite smaller budget

ALOR STAR: Kedah believe they will still be competitive next season despite a reduction in their budget.

Kedah FA (KFA) president Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the team's budget has been reduced from RM30 million to RM22 million for the 2022 M-League season.

He added that the reduction was made possible following the departure of several local and foreign players.

"If we can afford to pay salaries, then we will be free from problems.

"There were clubs who had spent around RM13 million last season, yet they did not do too badly in the Super League.

"We hope to spend within our means from now," said Sanusi after chairing the KFA Congress here today.

Sanusi explained that Kedah had no issues securing funds to pay salaries last season.

"However, the club were affected by debts left behind by the previous management.

"Players who were paid a lot are no longer with us," he added.

Kedah midfielder Baddrol Bakhtiar and defender Rizal Ghazali have left the club and are likely to join Sabah.

The club have also released all of their five foreign players and are scouting for replacements.

Last season, Kedah finished third in the Super League and were semi-finalists in the Malaysia Cup.
