KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim surprised the football fraternity today by announcing he will step back from the day-to-day running of the famous club.
The Crown Prince of Johor said he has other responsibilities and commitments to focus on.
"Due to my other responsibilities and commitments, I have decided to take a step back and hand over the control of JDT FC to the top management of the club.
"I wish the club and everyone all the best," he said in a post on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
Following the TMJ's announcement, many JDT fans appealed on social media to him to reconsider his decision.
Since Tunku Ismail became the owner of JDT in 2016, he has made them the undisputed No 1 club in Malaysian football, as they won the Super League title consecutively in the past eight years and also the Asian Football Confederation Cup in 2015.
