KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia defeated Cambodia 4-2 to reach the final of the Under-22 Merlion Cup at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore today.
E. Elavarasan's Sea Games-bound squad led 2-0 through Haqimi Azim Rosli (13th minute) and R. Ruventhiran (29th).
However, Keisuke Honda's Cambodia fought back and equalised with goals from Lim Pisoth (36th) and captain Sieng Chanthea (51st).
Undeterred, Malaysia continued to attack and scored through Fergus Tierney (62nd) and Najmudin Akmal Kamal Akmal (73rd) for the win.
Malaysia will face hosts Singapore or Hong Kong in Sunday's final.
For the record, Malaysia have never won the tournament since its inception in 1982.
