Morales' KL City departure sparks speculation of JDT move

KUALA LUMPUR: After weeks of speculation regarding the future of naturalised player Romel Morales with KL City, he has finally bid farewell to the City Boys.

In an emotional message shared on Instagram today, Morales described his three years with KL City as incredible.

"Today is a day of mixed feelings after three incredible years with KL City. It is time to say goodbye," Morales wrote.

"From the first day, I felt like part of the family. Every match and training session was an unforgettable experience. I truly appreciate the love and support you've given me on and off the field.

"Now, I start a new chapter in my football career, but I want you to know that I will carry you all with me. Thank you, Kuala Lumpur City, for being my football home."

Although he did not disclose his next destination, the 27-year-old Colombian is rumoured to be moving to 10-time Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

Over his three years with KL City, Morales experienced several sweet moments, including helping the club end a 32-year wait to lift the Malaysia Cup with a surprising 2-0 victory over JDT in the 2021 final.

He also played a crucial role in KL City's commendable runs in the AFC Cup last year and the FA Cup this year, both of which saw the team finishing as runners-up.

Romales is part of the Harimau Malaya team who will play in the Asian Cup in Doha from Jan 12-Feb 10.
