Will acid-attack victim Faisal Halim return to the pitch this season?

SHAH ALAM: Acid-attack victim Faisal Halim underwent his final surgery at a private hospital today, raising hopes that the Selangor winger may return to the pitch later this year.

Selangor sports science head Dr Hazwan Khair said: "The progress made by Faisal in the next 48-72 hours after the surgery will be crucial."

"Faisal underwent a split skin grafting procedure today. Updates on his condition will be released in the next 48-72 hours.

"We are optimistic it will be his final surgery," said Hazwan.

Hazwan revealed that Faisal will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation, addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of his recovery.

"Upon discharge, our focus will shift to musculoskeletal rehabilitation. We will focus on performance, but Faisal must heal from his wounds first.

"We will do assessments to determine his psychological state. We will request assistance from the National Sports Council (NSC)."

The 26-year-old is expected to be discharged from the hospital later this week.

Faisal was attacked at a major shopping mall in Petaling Jaya on May 5, suffering acid burns to several parts of his body, including his face.

Prior to his attack, another national footballer, Akyar Rashid, was attacked in Terengganu in what is believed to be a robbery.

Two days after Faisal's attack, Johor Darul Ta'zim midfielder Safiq Rahim had his car windshield smashed by unknown assailants.
