Striker Syafiq ruled out of Harimau Malaya's World Cup qualifying campaign

PETALING JAYA: Syafiq Ahmad has been dropped from Kim Pan Gon's Harimau Malaya squad due to an injury.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) announced the decision just hours before the start of the centralised camp at Wisma FAM, here today.

Zhafri Yahya has been called up from Pan Gon's standby list to replace Syafiq.

Pan Gon has called up 26 players for next month's World Cup qualifying matches against Kyrgyzstan (June 6) and Taiwan (June 11).

"Zhafri will replace Kedah striker Syafiq Ahmad, who is unable to join the camp due to an injury," said Pan Gon.

Syafiq suffered an injury during Kedah's Super League match against Perak in Alor Star on May 24.
