Irate Ronaldinho slams Brazil national squad

BRASILIA: Brazillian football great Ronaldinho has criticised his own national team and vowed to not watch their Copa America matches.

Ronaldinho, 44, in a post on social media yesterday, did not mince his words as he expressed his dissatisfaction with the squad.

"This is a sad moment for those who love Brazillian soccer. It is getting hard to find the spirit to watch the games," said Ronaldinho.

"This is perhaps one of the worst teams in recent years. It has no respectable leaders, only average players for the most part.

"I have been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I have never seen a situation as bad as this.

"A lack of love for the (national) shirt and a lack of grit. I'll repeat (myself), our performance has been one of the worst things I have ever seen. Such a shame.

"I will neither watch any Copa America matches nor celebrate any victories."

Brazil drew 1-1 with the United States in a friendly match earlier this week, which is believed to have upset Ronaldinho.
